Congress is Heading Home: Plan Your Recess Meetings Now
Mark your calendar for April 8-23 and get ready to meet with your Members of Congress while they are home for an extended recess. Face time with Members of Congress is more critical than ever for anti-hunger advocates to successfully push back against efforts to weaken the food and nutrition programs and other safety net programs that support individuals and families in need. Recess provides an opportune time for your Members to hear directly from you and other leaders in your state and community about the important role federal nutrition programs play in improving the lives of their constituents — and what’s at stake if these programs are weakened. Send your Members back to Washington with a clear message for their colleagues: No block grants, no structural changes, and no cuts to these proven, effective programs. Here are some tips to help you take full advantage of having both your Representatives and Senators back home: Request a Meeting With Your Members of Congress in District or State Offices. Your Members are much more likely to agree to a meeting if they are able to meet with several groups at once. We suggest involving six to eight local or state groups, and the more diverse your group, the better.

The foods that the people will eat for the meeting should be delicious, the taste should be inviting and the people that they will talk to should know the different etiquette so that there will be no problem that will arise. I know that we cannot avoid some bad things to happen, but to ensure that the Members of Congress will enjoy the foods is a goal checked for all of us. It will be a relief for us, there will be no arguments to talk about.
