Laurie True, California WIC Association Executive Director joins the team at the CCFP Roundtable2/8/2017 ![]() Child Care Food Program Roundtable Advisory Chair, Paula James recently announced Laurie True, MPH, California WIC Association’s Executive Director would be taking on the recently retired Ed Mattson's role with the CCFP Roundtable. At a recent CCFP Roundtable meeting in Sacramento, members welcomed Laurie True as they bid a goodbye to Ed Mattson. Laurie has been the California WIC Association’s Executive Director since 1999. She is a public health nutritionist with many years experience in research, community organizing and legislative advocacy. Laurie is recognized as one of the state's foremost experts on WIC, nutrition and health policy, and consults widely with federal, state and local decision makers, academics, and community based-organizations. Laurie has been a catalyst or founding member of many of California’s current health advocacy organizations and coalitions, including the California Food Policy Advocates, California WIC Association and the Strategic Alliance for Healthy Food and Activity Environments. In her professional capacity, Laurie has overseen numerous community-based applied research and evaluation projects on federal nutrition policy, including a groundbreaking hunger survey of children in California’s Central Valley. She has advocated successfully on many bills and issues that impact the health and nutrition of the state’s most vulnerable populations. Laurie serves on many statewide advisory boards and was a reviewer of the Institute of Medicine’s report, WIC Food Packages: Time for a Change. In 2005, she was an Atlantic Policy Fellow, and worked for the government of Scotland advising them on obesity prevention and child nutrition reforms. More
